Daniele Meucci was born in Pisa and approached athletics at the age of 17, standing out in a student cross-country race in Follonica. This first success led him to begin a career under the guidance of coach Luigi Principato. In December 2006, Meucci won individual bronze in the Under-23 race at the European Cross Country Championships, also contributing to the second place of the Italian team.
The European medals in the 10,000 metres
In 2010, Daniele Meucci participated in the European Championships in Barcelona, where he won bronze in the 10,000 metres. After this success, he came under the guidance of Massimo Magnani and continued to improve his performances. In 2012, at the European Championships in Helsinki, Meucci won silver in the 10,000 metres and also claimed bronze at the European Cross Country Championships in Budapest.
The first experiences in marathon running
After a first experience in the marathon in 2010 in Rome, with a time of 2h13:49, Daniele decided to try the marathon again with greater conviction. In 2013, he took part in the New York Marathon, finishing tenth with a time of 2h12:03. This marked the beginning of a promising career in long-distance running.
The victory at the European Championships in Zurich
2014 was a memorable year for Daniele Meucci, who won the marathon at the European Championships in Zurich. Two years later, in 2016, he claimed bronze in the half marathon at the European Championships in Amsterdam. These successes consolidated his reputation as one of the best European marathon runners.
Continuous improvements and high-level performances
In March 2018, Meucci took part in the Japanese Lake Biwa Marathon, where he finished sixth with a new personal best of 2h10:45, improving by eleven seconds on his previous record achieved at the 2017 World Championships in London. In the autumn of 2021, he improved further at the Barcelona Marathon with a time of 2h10:03.
A career full of successes
In February 2022, Daniele Meucci ran the Seville Marathon in 2h09:25, continuing to improve in 2024 with an impressive 2h07:49. From his first successes in youth competitions, through European medals in the 10,000 metres and achievements in marathons, Meucci has shown himself to be a complete and versatile athlete, capable of competing at the highest levels.
